Students majoring in Spanish can apply to write an honors thesis if they meet one of the following criteria:
- They are a member of the University Honors Program
- They have an overall GPA of 3.30 or higher and a GPA of at least 3.6 in their major
The thesis is an extended analytical and argumentative paper based on individual research. It is written entirely in Spanish and advised by a member of the SLLCS faculty.
The topic should be original and engage with critical perspectives in the chosen field. Topics may have to do with literature, culture, civilization or language. With the approval of the faculty advisor, the thesis may combine interests from another major, as long as the topic is focused on the Spanish-speaking world.
For more information, including a timeline for completion, see the document on honors and distinction attached to this article.
In order to register for SPAN3998 Honors Thesis, students will need to fill out Application for Independent Study, Directed Study and Independent Research Form and bring the form to SH391 (or email it to SLLCS@du.edu).
Additional questions should be directed to your major advisor, or to the current SLLCS honors/distinction advisor found on our advising guide.
