Arabic 


First-year Arabic courses are offered through the Center for World Languages and Cultures (cwlc@du.edu). These courses primarily focus on the basics of language, writing, speaking, and reading.


The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (LLandC@du.edu) offers upper-division Arabic courses. These courses help solidify language expertise, cultural understanding, and Arabic literature. Common courses taught investigate the culture and society of the Middle East and North Africa. Some upper-division courses are taught in English.  


Chinese

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (LLandC@du.edu) offers upper-division Chinese courses. These courses cover a mix of topics designed to -  

  1. Develop students' language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing 
  2. Advance the understanding of Chinese culture 
  3. Improve students' ability to adapt to a different social environment 



French and Francophone Studies 


First-year French courses are offered through the Center for World Languages and Cultures (cwlc@du.edu). These courses primarily focus on the basics of language, writing, speaking, and reading.

These courses help solidify language expertise, progressing to foundations of French and Francophone literatures and cultures. Advanced courses explore Canadian history, poetry, and various subjects in advanced literature, along with topics covering Francophone Africa.  


German

Many students also simultaneously explore programs offered by DU’s Center for Judaic Studies (CJS)


Italian

Japanese

Spanish

The Department of Spanish Language, Literary and Cultural Studies (SLLCS@du.edu) offers upper-division Spanish courses. These courses finalize your basic language knowledge before rapidly expanding in scope to cover the nuanced intersections of culture, literature, and the Spanish language globally. Advanced courses explore Imperial Spain, Latin American Culture, the concept and construction of Caribbean Blackness, and many other topics across the Spanish-speaking world.
