Since 2012, the Anna Maglione-Sie Endowment in Italian Culture sponsors a broad spectrum of research and collaboration in Italian Studies. The Endowment funds four major initiatives:
- Scholarship and Research: Travel and research awards for faculty from DU's Italian program and throughout the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
- Undergraduate Scholarships for outstanding students majoring in Italian
- Visiting Scholars in Residence to bring distinguished Italian scholars, writers, and directors to the University of Denver
- Italian Film Showcase at the Denver Film Festival: Together with the Denver Film Society, co-sponsorship of an annual showcase of contemporary Italian cinema
Faculty Research and Travel Grants have provided important funding for Italian and Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences faculty to carry out research and scholarship; publish books, book chapters and articles; attend and present academic papers at national and international conferences; present their work in the context of musical performances and art installations; interact with and form invaluable relationships with colleagues in their academic disciplines; and teach students in the classroom and in master classes in Italy.
The fertile ground of Italy has provided the seedbed and inspiration for a rich blend of research-oriented projects, performance and exhibits in the arts, pedagogical innovations, and initiating and sustaining scholarly connections and collaborations. The AHSS faculty are grateful to Mrs. Anna Maglione-Sie and Mr. John J. Sie for their generosity and commitment to providing ongoing funding for the future of Italian Studies at the University of Denver.
